LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY INFORMATION

SCHOOLS – The Tuscarawas Valley Local School District serves most of the residents of Lawrence Township, along with residents of Sandy, Fairfield, and Warren Township in Tuscarawas and the southern part of Pike Township and the southeastern part of Bethlehem Township in Stark County.
The district has five buildings with the Bolivar Building being the only building in Lawrence Township. It houses children from grade Preschool through grade 4. The newly built middle school serves the entire district for grades 5-8 and Tuscarawas Valley High School serves the district for grades 9-12. The other buildings are Mineral City Elementary that houses grades Preschool through grade 4 and New Cumberland Elementary that houses grades K-4.

The school excels in academics, sports and fine arts. The science program is outstanding, having many state superior winners for middle school and senior high school. Several International Science Fair Winners are posted in the main entry-way to the Tuscarawas Valley High School. The Hall of Fame for state award winning athletes and teams is a proud tradition for the young people of this district and may be viewed in the high school hallway near the gymnasium. The fine Arts program includes many outstanding art projects and the music and drama departments produce high quality productions annually. The Tuscarawas Valley Local School District was formed as a district in 1956.

BUCKEYE CAREER CENTER - Many Tusky Valley students attend Buckeye Career Center. It is a two-year vocational/technical high school which offers students training and experience in modern work oriented areas. They are active in ‘School to Work’, ‘Career Development’, and ‘Adult Education’. Graduated student credentials include not only a diploma, but also a Career Passport. This includes a comprehensive resume, verified vocational competencies, transcript, relevant competencies, and aptitude scores, along with a Vocational Certificate or Certificate of Completion. Students are still active in their ‘home’ schools extracurricular activities and sports programs.
